Deck Materials - Natural Timbers, Composit and Aluminium

There is a choice to be made over the deck materials you will use for your project. Appearance is all important. Natural timbers, composit decking products or even aluminium. They all have their plus points.

The important thing to consider, apart perhaps, from your budget, is how well your chosen material will match your existing property.

Wood, and in particular pressure treated pine, is probably the single most popular material used for decking today. Redwood, cedar and cypress are all good looking, strong woods resistant to rotting. Whatever your wood choice, make sure that the material you buy is rated for deck use.

Synthetic decking materials are growing in popularity particularly due to their lower maintenance requirements. They are composit materials made from wood and plastics and are much improved on the 'plastic' look of past years. They now have an authentic appearance of wood, with grained and wood coloured and textured finishes. The different types of composite decking are made from a mix of wood and either recyled hard or soft plastics. Composite decks are ideal for pool decks

Additionally, materials are available in aluminium. They have a colored powder coat finish, and lock together so that screwing down is not required.
